Rupture Disk: Basco Accompanies Me in Building a Solid Defense Line

2024-06-20
In my years of industrial pressure system operation and maintenance work, Rupture Disk has always been one of the core safety devices I trust most. Together with Safety Valve, it forms a dual protection system for Pressure Relief of Pressure Vessels. Among this system, Basco's rupture disks have become my preferred choice due to their excellent performance.
For Pressure Vessels, the risk of overpressure is like a sword hanging overhead. As a non-reclosing Safety Device, the core value of Rupture Disk lies in precise response and instantaneous pressure relief. Its working principle seems simple but contains rigorous engineering design: when the system pressure reaches the preset Burst Pressure, the rupture disk will rupture instantly, quickly constructing an unobstructed pressure relief channel to discharge excess pressure rapidly, thereby avoiding malignant accidents such as explosions of pressure vessels due to overpressure. Compared with Safety Valve, the response speed of Rupture Disk can reach the millisecond level, making it especially suitable for extreme working conditions with sudden pressure surges. This has been fully verified in many emergency working conditions I have handled.
In the actual selection, operation and maintenance process, there are several key parameters that I always pay attention to, and Operating Ratio is one of them. It refers to the ratio of the normal operating pressure of the system to the Burst Pressure of the rupture disk. Reasonably controlling the Operating Ratio is crucial to ensuring the service life and safety performance of the rupture disk. If the Operating Ratio is too high, it will accelerate the material fatigue of the rupture disk. Especially under working conditions with Pressure Cycling, repeated pressure rises and falls will further weaken the strength of the rupture disk, possibly leading to its premature rupture and failure. However, Basco's rupture disks perform exceptionally well in dealing with Pressure Cycling working conditions. Its LC series of positive-arch grooved metal rupture disks can reach 85% of the calibrated Burst Pressure in operating pressure, and some models can even work stably at a higher Operating Ratio with excellent fatigue resistance, effectively reducing the impact of Pressure Cycling on equipment safety.
I once was in charge of a chemical industry pressure vessel project with corrosive media. This project not only had frequent Pressure Cycling, but the strong corrosiveness of the media also put forward extremely high requirements for safety devices. After multiple comparisons, I finally chose Basco's graphite rupture disk and safety valve series combination scheme. In this combination mode, the rupture disk is installed on the inlet side of the safety valve, which can not only avoid direct contact between corrosive media and the safety valve leading to spool blockage or corrosion failure, but also reduce the risk of media leakage with the zero-leakage characteristic of the rupture disk. Basco's graphite rupture disks not only have strong corrosion resistance, but also have a wide Burst Pressure range of 0.01-10.3 barg, which is fully suitable for the working conditions of the project. In the subsequent operation and maintenance process, this set of Pressure Relief system has been operating stably, maintaining reliability when the peak value of Pressure Cycling was close to the critical value for many times, and there has never been any misoperation or failure.
It is worth mentioning that Basco's rupture disks are all manufactured in strict accordance with international standards such as the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Each product is equipped with a 3D stainless steel nameplate, clearly marking key parameters such as Burst Pressure and Operating Ratio, which has provided great convenience for my selection, installation and operation and maintenance work. At the same time, its product series are rich, whether it is conventional models suitable for gas phase, liquid phase or gas-liquid two-phase media, or customized products with special functions such as fluoroplastic lining and rupture sensors, they can meet the diverse needs of different industries.
In the safety chain of industrial production, Rupture Disk seems to be a small component, but it bears the major responsibility of protecting equipment and personnel safety. Choosing a brand with reliable quality and professional technology like Basco will undoubtedly add a solid guarantee to the safety defense line of the pressure system. In future work, I will continue to trust and recommend Basco's rupture disk products, allowing this excellent Safety Device to escort more industrial projects.
